A Happy Birthday Today - I Had A Lot in Common With Him
Happy birthday to Phil Niekro who turned 78 today. What did we have in common? The few times I pitched, the catcher had no idea where the ball would end up, just like when Niekro threw his knuckleball.
Of course, the catcher usually knew where my strikes would end up - over the outfielders' heads. That's why I only pitched twice in actual games over my ten years.
