Did Kellogg's Care About Total Bases When Choosing Players for Their Cards?

I was practicing my database skills today.  Since the database that I use doesn't have batting average or total bases, I practiced creating these fields in the database.

I looked at the total base leaders from 1969 -1982, the Kellogg's years.  Here are the leaders.

1969 Frank Howard
1970 Billy Williams
1971 Joe Torre
1972 Billy Williams
1973 Bobby Bonds
1974 Johnny Bench
1975 Greg Luzinski
1976 Mike Schmidt
1977 George Foster
1978 Jim Rice
1979 Jim Rice
1980 Mike Schmidt
1981 Mike Schmidt
1982 Robin Yount

All appeared on a Kellogg's card the next year except for Mike Schmidt in 1976.

Those who didn't lead in total bases during those year include Reggie Jackson, Willie McCovey, Willie Stargell and many who were near the end of their careers - Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Harmon Killebrew, and Ernie Banks.

The all-time leader for a season in total bases in Babe Ruth of course.
