Unopened Kellogg's Goals and Duplicates

I think that I have every card from the main sets.  Some of the 1971s need to be upgraded, but I will probably do that over the long haul.  I'm certainly lacking some variations from a few sets.  I'm also guessing that there will be more variations uncovered over time.

My next goal has been to work on getting unopened versions of each card.  The first two years might pose two much of a challenge, but I'm working on the other ones.  This should keep me busy for years.

While pursuing my unopened goals, I bought some large lots of unopened Kellogg's cards.  I've struggled to sell enough other stuff from my collection to make up for these purchases.  It pains me to sell some of my unopened Kellogg's cards, but when I finally inventoried my 1973s I found that I had more than 5 of lots of players.  If I ever get around to organizing everything in my collection, maybe I can sell or trade more duplicates and start chasing the key cards that I need to find unopened.

These 1973s are some of my favorites.  It certainly helped that my favorite Cubs were in the set.  Being addicted to Frosted Flakes as a kid helped too.

 

1979 Team Logo Variations - Royals and Cardinals

There are lots of variations in the 1979 Kellogg's set.  Some people only look at the statistical variations.  Others look at the registered and trademark symbols which probably coincide with the team logo changes on the back of the card.

As is seen here with the Royals and the Cardinals, the logo changed during the year.  The Cardinals logo changed drastically while the Royals text was changed from block letters to cursive letters.

1968 Topps 3-D and 1970 Kellogg's Packs

The picture below shows a great box of 1968 Topps 3-D.  I don't have this box and I have only one card from this set.  I'd love to find the box or a wrapper at some point.

I do have over 36 packs of 1970 Kellogg's baseball cards.  I only have 36 different packs on my way to a goal of having a pack with each player shown on the front.  So, I still need 39 different packs including many Hall of Famers.

Danish Go Rounds Box - What About Pop Tarts?

I saw this picture of a Danish Go Rounds Box that contained the 1972 Kellogg's All-Time Great cards.  I recall a friend having a box of Pop Tarts that had the same promotion, but I have yet to see one.  I don't have the Danish Go Rounds box either.

Does anyone have ideas about this.

Memories of Minnie Minoso and Ernie Banks

Chicago baseball fans will certainly miss former Sox great Minnie Minoso and former Cub Hall-of-Famer Ernie Banks as Opening Day approaches.  For those outside of Chicago, the reason that these two are so greatly missed is simple - they stayed connected to the game throughout their lives.    

Both players were seen regularly at the ballpark, usually conversing with fans of all ages.  Both appeared at team-sponsored events away from the ballpark.  I remember Minoso attending the Ridge Run in Beverly one year.  Instead of signing baseballs he spent most of his time signing the race numbers of the runners.

Minoso didn't play long enough to get into a regular-issued Kellogg set, but he did manage to get into the Hispanic set.  Banks found his way into the 1970 and 1971 sets.  Banks also appeared in a set in the early 1990s.

Kellogg's 3-D Football Card TV Commercial?

I've been waiting for a while to bring this up, but I purchased a tape from 1970 which appears to be a 1970 TV commercial for Kellogg's 3-D football cards.  Dick Butkus is supposed to be the star of this commercial.  I don't remember ever seeing this commercial.

New Set to Chase - 1968 Topps Test 3-D Cards - I Have One Now!

Recently I was fortunate enough to pick up my first 1968 Topps 3-D card - Bill Robinson.  I don't expect to pick up any more in the near future as the cards are beyond my budget for now.  Even though the set may take me 10 or more years to complete, it is fun to have started it.
