1998 Kellogg's Basketball Factory Set

Some family issues have kept me from blogging and even checking out my card room lately.  I did finally get a factory sealed set of the 1998 Kellogg's basketball cards. 

I have the entire set but I wanted a sealed one too.  Why?  I like to get a sample of everything they've produced when I can afford it.  This set I can certainly afford.  I am hoping to get more unopened packs but they don't show up frequently.  

Has anyone seen sealed sets or unopened packs way back in the past when we used to attend card shows?

Who You Gonna Call?

I am working from home today since school is closed.  My daughter is home from her school and my son is home from college.  We are all closed until further notice.

I let me children know that I'd prefer they put on a movie over watching whatever was on television.  My son decided to turn on Space Jam.  In this 1996 movie aliens such out the athleticism of five NBA players.  These players go get tested and it turns out they have an unknown virus.  What does the NBA do about it?  They shut down the league.  

Maybe we should call Bill Murray, Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes for help.  

More 1997-98 Kellogg's Basketball Card Information

I found out that there are at least two different versions of these cards - gold and silver.  Are there others?

Based on this card that must have been in packs, I guess that the Gold Edition was only available by buying the set.

The Silver Edition must have been inserted into some Kellogg's product(s).  Any ideas?

The checklist is shown below.

I didn't see the Kellogg's logo anywhere on the cards.  Did I miss something?  Are these the same cards that Upper Deck and Pinnacle produced in 1998 for their regular set?  The cards are numbered 1 - 56.

More oddities.  The NBA cards are from Upper Deck and the WNBA cards are from Pinnacle.  Yet they sold them together.

Grant Hill is card #01.  His is the only card without the Upper Deck or Pinnacle logo on the front.  Instead, it has the Pistons logo.  The other Pistons don't have the Pistons logo either.  What is that all about?

I added the pictures of the Grant Hill card.  Notice it does have the Upper Deck logo on the back.  A nice comment by Billy (https://www.blogger.com/profile/11847326710191224832) about Hill's Fleer contract makes sense.  Is there a difference with the logo being on the back of a card? 

Kellogg's 1997-98 NBA WNBA Cards

I don't see these Kellogg's basketball cards offered frequently on ebay.  I saw a set of 57? cards recently that sold for $7.00.  I didn't bid enough to buy it.  Why?  I know nothing about it.  I am no longer collecting basketball, football and hockey cards unless they are from Kellogg's or Sportscaster.  I have none of these 1997-98 cards and I don't remember them.

Let me know what you know about them?  I haven't seen a cereal box advertising them.  Did they come in cereal boxes?

Kellogg's Basketball Cards from the late 1990s

I don't remember anything about these cards.  I was surprised to see that a pack contained 11 cards.  This is my first pack of these. 

Does anyone know much about these cards?  I will open a pack when I get another one, but I like this pack the way it is with Stockton.

When Starting Lineups got lazy and started using cards that already existed it was quite a disappointment.  Most years they at least reprinted them with sequential numbers instead of using the number from the regular card set.  They also usually put the SLU logo on the front or back.

I see no logo on the front here.  I guess I'll need to check the back to see about the logo and card number.  How else would one know it was a Kellogg's card unless it was in this pack with the checklist?

I wasn't really collecting cards much from 1995 - 1999.  Things that caused it included the baseball strike, graduate school in another town and moving to Colorado.  I wish I'd have done this things from 1990 - 1995 so I'd have less of the junk cards in my house.

More Kellogg's Basketball Set?

How many ways did they market this set? 

I don't own one of these, but I will probably look out for this in bargain boxes when I go to a big card show.  I'm guessing that around $2.00 is what I might pay for one of these.  Of course, I will need to get it since I want one of everything that I can afford.

I doubt that I will try to get one of each 1971 Kellogg's card in top condition.  That's outside of my pay scale.

I Bought This Just For the Packaging

I didn't buy the 1970 Kellogg's cards cut from the boxes, and this purchase wasn't a great consolation prize.  I just wanted the binder because I already have all of the 18 cards in this set.

The cards in this set don't seem to be very popular, including the Larry Bird and John Stockton.  Let me know if you'd like to trade for a set.
