Does Anyone Know Why 1981 Kellogg's Sheets Have Upside Down Cards

I have one of these sheets but it is a challenge to get a good picture.  There is one availalble on ebay so here is the picture of that one.

I've seen a bunch of Kellogg's sheets but the 1981 sheet is quite unique for Kellogg's.  It the the only one I've seen where some of the cards are upside down.  Has anyone seen this on other Kellogg's sheets?

I think I've seen something like this with Topps cards - can anyone confirm that and tell me why that would happen?

FYI - this is the only Kellogg's set from the 1970 - 1983 run that used standard card sizes.

1971 Kellogg's Variations for Trade - Not Mint - Not Even Close

It has been a rough week financially, so what better time to try to trade for some of the variations from the 1971 Kellogg's baseball card set.

I am probably done buying lots of 1971s in VG or lesser condition to find variations that I need.  Many of the listings online don't show the card backs either for me to see if I need them.  Here are the variations that I have and the ones that I have for trading.  Note - the cards that I am seeking and the cards that I am trading are not in great condition.  Look for samples of the condition below.

Do I know which of the cards are more difficult to find?  No.  Trying to figure it out from PSA isn't easy as you will notice if you go to their site.

Cards that I need.  I listed the Xograph versions first, then the 1970 versions.

Cards that I have available for trade.  I will update this list if I find more or if I end up trading many of these cards.

e-mail me if you'd like to swap some 1971s.

UPDATE - I picked up two cards (1970 McCovey, 1970 Palmer).  I now need 30 variations for this set.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

I decided that I would stay away from my card room until I caught up with my grading.  I'm getting close to that.  I haven't stopped myself from buying online.  I guess being stupid and not buying online is probably more appropriate this week.

I've probably made three big mistakes when not bidding properly on an item over the last few years.  Two of them happened this week.  What constitutes a mistake?  For me the mistake is that I was too cheap to bid appropriately on items that don't come up for sale often.

To make matters worse, one was a Kellogg's display item that I never saw before.  It gets worse - it had a buy-it-now price and I didn't act.  Ugh.

The second one was on some cards that don't show up much.  I needed about half of the lot.  It would not bother me as much if someone bid way up to win the lot, but it was just two of us so the other person got the lot at the next price higher than my top bid.  Ugh.

I hope that this reminder stays with me for a while.  But I really wonder how long it will take for me to be able to find the items that are missing from my collection.

Does everyone make these mistakes?  The one lot ended while I was teaching so that didn't help matters.

Still Searching for the Benanti Collection Cards, Sheets, Proofs, etc.

It has been over six years since Beckett Auctions was involved with the Benanti Collection.  Some great items were sold and there were supposed to be many more.  Somehow, the remaining items never got to the auction.  I was told by Beckett that the family pulled the remaining items for some reason.

Does anyone know more about this?

Has anyone seen these items anywhere?

Does anyone know how I can get more information on the Benanti Collection?

Gehrig Card From the Benanti Collection

Has anyone else noticed proof cards that differ from the final product?

Kellogg's Individual Baseball Card Packs

On the right side of my blog I list some of the unopened Kellogg's packs that I am seeking.  Is that a complete list of those that I need?  No.

I list the cards that I need from 1972 - 1974, 1976 - 1978 and the 1979 variation packs.  I already completed a 1978 set, but since I ended up being close to another I added them to the want list.

Notice nothing listed for 1970, 1971 and 1975.  I still don't see much hope in getting these sets in their original one-card packs.  I am having trouble finding clean, un-cracked cards for opened sets, especially when trying to find the 1971 variations.

I don't expect to make any collecting goals for 2021 with the way things are going recently.  Will I go to cards shows or flea markets next year?  If so, when?

Should I try to do This with 1971s?

I am debating trying to find 1971s in nice condition, but not PSA cards.  Has anyone tried this with football and baseball?  When I find 1971s, the baseball cards seem to usually be beat up.  The football cards seem to be nicer cards.  Have you seen this to be true?

I am still working on 1971 variations.  For that project any condition will do.  If you have G-VG extras I'd be looking for a bunch of different variations.

2020 has been a slow year for me with my cards.  Now that I'm done coaching for a while, I plan to get back to blogging and conversing with other collectors.  Feel free to e-mail me at the address at the top of the blog.
