Still in the Outfield with My Kellogg's Cards

As a kid I sometimes played the outfield because no one hit the ball there.  That was the best place for me.  As a teen I loved playing the outfield because we moved the mound back 12 feet one year.  Hitters gained a big advantage so the ball was put into play quite frequently.

Willie Mays is the all-time leader in outfield put-outs.  Tris Speaker is second and Rickey Henderson is third.

Ty Cobb, Hank Aaaron, Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Bonds are also in the top 10.

In terms of games played in the outfield, Cobb was first followed by Bonds and Mays.

Richie Ashburn ranked 6th in put-outs while 39 players appeared in the outfield more times than he did.

Guys like Pete Rose who played infield and outfield have no chance to be on a list like this.  Neither would guys who ended up at first base or designated hitter later in their careers.

The guys just outside of the top 10 are quite a list.  Maybe a future post will look at some of these guys.  I also like adding this Pete Rose proof card once in a while.  I wish the 1975s actually looked like that.
