1976 Kellogg's Card Backs - Card Numbers 13 - 15

It's easy to write these posts because I love checking out these cards.  It's one of my favorite sets and the print is large enough for my old eyes to easily read.

13 - Don Sutton

Don has pitched ten seasons with the Dodgers without having 20 wins in a season.

Not on the card - Don actually proved the Kellogg's writers wrong by winning 21 games in 1976. That was his only 20+ win season in his 23-year career.  Sutton only received Cy Young votes from 1972 - 1976.  He finished third once, fourth once and fifth five times.

14 - Joe Morgan

I didn't know that he had been disregarded for a long time in the MVP voting.

Not on the card - Morgan won the MVP award again in 1976.  Besides getting MVP votes from 1972 - 1976 he also got votes as early as 1965 and as late as 1982.

15 - Dave Parker

At 6-5 Parker must have been an intimidating presence at the plate in the 1970s.  That's 10 inches taller than Joe Morgan.

In his first full season he led the team in triples, homers and RBIs.  He played in the Venezuelan Winter League - that doesn't get mentioned on Kellogg's cards much.

Not on the card - Parker led the league in slugging percentage in 1975 and he was third in the MVP voting.  He received MVP votes in nine seasons as early as 1975 and as late as 1990.
