What Didn't Happen on This Day in Two Different Years

On this day in 1934 Mickey Cochrane won the AL MVP Award.  On this day in 1942
Joe Gordon won the AL MVP Award.  Other AL MVPS Jimmy Foxx in 1933 and Joe DiMaggio in 1947 have something in common with Cochrane and Gordon.

What do they have in common?

It turns out that the four MVPs mentioned above all won the award by getting more votes than triple crown winners.  That certainly wouldn't be the case today.

Gehrig finished 5th in the MVP voting in 1934 despite winning the triple crown.  Ted Williams actually won the triple crown twice (1942, 1947) without winning the MVP award in either season.  There have been comments about Ted's personality costing him some votes.
